One of the original areas of Canada’s Wonderland when the park opened in 1981 is the Grande World Expo, and it is slowly going through a transformation that could be years in the making.

Canada’s Wonderland has announced the removal of Xtreme Skyflyer, near the park entrance, for the 2024 season. Common place at several of the Cedar Fair parks, the upcharged attraction allowed guests to strap into a swing of sorta, be pulled up to 153 feet, and then the guest pulled a cord, allowing them to freefall back to the ground. While we never did it at Canada’s Wonderland, it was quite FUN the several times we have experienced it at Cedar Point.

After 26 years of thrilling guests, Xtreme Skyflyer has been retired and is being removed from Canada’s Wonderland. The attraction opened in 1996 and operated every year, except 2020. Guests were lifted in a harness 47 metres high before freefalling and swinging out over Grande World Expo. Xtreme Skyflyer gave a total of 1,179,213 rides by the end of the 2023 season.

With the removal of Xtreme Skyflyer, this opens up a massive area of prime real estate, especially if the entry way to the park were to get modernized.

Currently entry into Canada’s Wonderland can be quite the mess as guests cram into a small area between the gates and the turn of Leviathan. Then there is a small area between security and ticket scanners. The whole entryway is due for a major overhaul, and the additional area where Xtreme Skyflyer opens up some interesting possibilities.

Not to say Canada’s Wonderland would get a clone of GateKeeper over the entryway, but the area is looking quite interesting.

Further, the Grande World Expo is home to not one, but two roller coasters that have not aged quite so gracefully. Both Time Warp and Flight Deck are both terribly uncomfortable rides.

Some teasing of the park in 2021 hinted that possibly Flight Deck’s removal could be in the future works. Add Time Warp to that list, and you have an unprecedented amount of space that opens up the possibility to anything.

Of course all the prediction analysts will start throwing any spaghetti at the wall with this opportunity, but only time will tell what Canada’s Wonderland has in store for the Grande World Expo.
