Things are getting closer and closer to normal around the parks. Mask and social distancing requirements are being dropped. Reservations may or may not be needed based on your park. As parks ramp up staffing needs, more and more is coming online. The biggest area needing staffing is the food and beverage departments across the Cedar Fair chain, and that is exactly why you see a industry leading payroll be offered.

So we never know what to expect when it comes to food and beverage offerings, and that is always most apparent at Cedar Point. However, the park has been ramping up the food and beverage team from the top down. When the park used to only have one executive chef, they now have an entire team that is still being expanded. This means more leadership overseeing execution throughout the park.

Where we saw this most apparent already this season is with the Frontier Festival. Outside of opening weekend, the 2021 Frontier Festival food offerings, in our opinion, is the best it has ever been. You will see white coats everywhere during the festival, making sure the demands are met. It has really made a difference in not only execution, but also a step up in food quality. The majority of the cherry inspired Frontier Festival menu items were terrific.

With all that being said, we have high expectations for the new Taste of Cedar Point Food Tour! While Cedar Point has offered some less than stellar summer food events in years past, the 2021 track record gives us high hopes.

Taste of Cedar Point will take place June 26-August 15, 2021. Note, the actual dates of the food event could change.

So lets take a look at the menu.

Taste of Cedar Point Food Tour Menu

Corral – Waffle Fry Nachos

Seasoned waffle fries topped with sliced chicken tenders, cheese sauce, jalapenos, green onion, salsa and sour cream. Nice big portion and wide audience appeal but nothing too special.

C.P. Juice Co. – Specialty Juice

When Cedar Point put requests out for menu items guests would like to see return for the 150th anniversary, the old style juice sippers were at the top of the list. Trying to source those again was a big undertaking for the park, but they did manage to bring them back, which is very cool! However, the caveat though is that they are just filled with your standard lemonade, grape juice, orange juice and apple juice provided by Minute Maid. Unfortunately, the Coca-Cola contract, which owns Minute Maid, limits the options to put into the containers. We had high hopes for the Kool-Aid style drinks inside of them we all remember as kids. Neat souvenir, but not really worth the cost for high priced juice off the shelf.

French Quarter Confections – Loaded Funnel Fries

This was a surprise menu item for us, as it was delicious and so good with the chosen toppings.

Hugo’s – Herbed Focaccia Caprese Sandwich

Really, really loved this sandwich. Cheesy focaccia bread paired really nicely with the thick slices of mozzarella, basil, tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. Our only regret was not asking for an extra side of the balsamic to dip the sandwich into. Also, oddly on the day of our visit, the sandwich was made with grape tomatoes in lieu of sliced. Not a big deal, but different than advertised.

Mac Shack – Signature Bowl

Round Up – Deep Fried Ribs w/ Bourbon BBQ Sauce AND Candied Jalapeno Chutney

Sagebrush Sue’s
– Cinnamon/Sugar Cheesecake Chimichanga w/ Caramel Sauce
– Fried Pepper Jack Cheese w/ Raspberry Jam

Senor Vargas Walking Taco – Pork Rind Nachos

Stockade – Funnel Cake Hot Chicken Sandwich

This was probably the menu item we were most excited to try. We also got to see them prepare it fresh in front of us which was nice. The breaded chicken breast and funnel cake are both frozen and dropped fresh into the fryer for cooking. Then the chicken is dipped in a hot sauce bath before being placed onto the funnel cakes and dusted with powdered sugar. We can not emphasize enough how happy we were with the hot sauce selection. They choose to use an oil based hot sauce and thankfully not the standard Frank’s Red Hot style sauce they typically use. It was delicious with just the right amount of heat that was offset by the funnel cake and powdered sugar.

Just not the sandwich does not hold up well and is better eaten with a fork and knife.

Toft’s – Crazy Cherry Shake

This is a much larger version of the shake served at Frontier Festival. It is also served at Toft’s in the front of the park which tends to be better outfitted (i.e. staffed) to handle a crowd, making for much quicker service. They happen to be out of the standard rimmed cup during our visit, but substituted an Oreo lined cup which still paired nicely with the shake.

Wagon Wheel – Desert Pizza

To access the specialty menu items, guests will need to purchase Tasting Cards. For $30 ($25 for passholders), guests get 6 menu items. Cedar Point is also offering a special $75 admission, parking and tasting card option.

In addition to the Taste of The Point, the fruit-shaped drink vessels from the park’s past return at the new C.P. Juice Co., and vegan and vegetarian dishes make their debut at The Wild Turnip on the Frontier Trail. Delicious fried chicken and tots will be served at The Roost, and the new Custard Creamery will cool the palate with fresh custard and ice cream novelties.
