Do you know where you will find us during the Cedar Point Last Blast of Summer? On the midways of course, but not for the normal reasons people come to Cedar Point. We will be there for the annual return of Ohio vs. Michigan Food Truck Challenge!
Many of the finest area food trucks hit the Cedar Point midways August 24-26 and August 31-September 3, 2018, with several of the trucks remaining until the end of the season.
You will always see us as big proponents of the Food Truck Challenge since it allows the park to offer new menu items from fantastic vendors. In addition, with reduced staffing as students head back to school, etc., it puts all of the supply and production of the food onto the trucks.
The only downside is the Cedar Point dining plans are not accepted at the food trucks, but it can be well worth it to spend some additional money on some terrific food!
So who will be at the 2018 Cedar Point Ohio vs. Michigan Food Truck Challenge?
Ohio Food Trucks
Firehouse Grilling makes some really, really fantastic food! If you do not believe us, Firehouse was also the 2017 Cedar Point food truck wars winner! The sandwiches are fresh and quite possibly the best burger you will ever eat. We have been huge fans since they first showed up on the midway in 2016, and everyone walks away very happy!
When Fire House offers the chili, you must try it! Absolutely fantastic on those cooler fall days, and we think it may be the best chili we have ever eaten!
Also highly recommended is the pineapple burger and the black bean vegetarian burger with the Firehouse slaw!
Empanadas & More
We had the pleasure of meeting the owner and trying the empanadas in 2016 and 2017 and it is one of those menu items we can not wait to enjoy again! Super flavorful Puerto Rican pastry filled with a variety of options of meat, cheese, and veggies.
We also LOVE the plantain sandwiches, and the chef/owner is really good at customizing food for special diets, as everything is made fresh!
Our kids loved the empanadas so much, they raided their own piggy banks saying they wanted to eat them again! These are a must try!
Looking for a hefty and enjoyable Asian inspired meal? Cupzilla bowls are very good and easily shareable!
Cupzilla packs an amazing amount of flavor inside their Korean BBQ bowls! Rice, glass noodles, and lettuce are the base, and are then topped with your favorite meat or tofu, sauce, and level of spiciness. Available as vegan or vegetarian also.
GessWho Tacos and Chicken & Waffles
The team at GessWho continues to surprise us after every visit as they pull off some really unique menu items you will not find anywhere else.
Take for example their secret menu item: Mexi-Balls featuring cream cheese, sausage, jalapeños & secret ingredient, then drizzled w/raspberry sauce! Absolutely outstanding!
GessWho also offers a locally caught fresh perch taco among other options!
The SWAT food truck offers tons of menu options that we always feel like we must try them all! This truck brings out some of the really interesting food options that you will not find anywhere else, and we love it!
Take for example the fried Mac & Cheese burger, which they routinely sell out.
Guests also really like the fried pickle fries.
Though one of our favorites is the fried lobster and crab roll, which combines large chunks of meat with lemon aioli, cream cheese and garlic!
For dessert, SWAT food truck offers a variety of menu items like fried Oreos or fried oatmeal cream pies! Yes please!
The new Ohio food truck on the scene this season is The Gaucho and the Gringa. This is certainly the truck we are most excited to try this year due to their Argentinian influences.
The menu includes some interesting options like a variety of Choridog and empanadas.
Cameo Pizza
Hometown Cameo Pizza is a favorite among Sandusky locals, and they will be returning to the Cedar Point midway for the second season offering a variety of pizza pies!
Michigan Food Trucks
Forest Fun Food
The new guys on the Food Truck Wars this season is Forest Fun Food offering a variety of Michigan inspired street tacos. We are most excited to try their fire roasted Michigan cherry sauce.
The Chicken Coupe is known for their chicken & waffles, but they also offer several other comfort menu items you might enjoy, like loaded tater tots or garlic Parmesan chicken fries.
Note: Not all menu items depicted above may be available during this years Cedar Point food truck wars. Those shown are some of our favorites from years past.
