190706 Worlds of Fun Entry Sign Platinum Pass

Many will argue that Worlds of Fun is finally getting their chance to shine in the spotlight. After all, parent company Cedar Fair is building the park a brand new Great Coasters International (GCI) and Skyline Attractions hybrid titan track Zambezi Zinger for 2023 that is really going to be a stellar attraction for the park.

While the park is getting ready for opening day April 8 and the celebration of Worlds of Fun’s 50th anniversary, the roller coaster will not be ready till later this spring/early summer.

However, when some guests visited last weekend during the friends and family early preview, there were some additional notable ride removals that have either taken place already, or in the works based on them being removed from the parks website and map.

Three rides in Planet Snoopy were removed.

While not entirely surprising to see some of the 1970s kids rides removed due to age, what is interesting is all three of these rides are adjacent to each other, and now that they are removed, open up a rather large plot of land with potential for new attractions.

With the three attractions removed in red, the area in blue opens up quite the possibilities, and that is just assuming that the Haunt building and amphitheater stay in place.

What is also interesting is that Coaster’s Diner has been renamed to Sand Dune Diner for the 2023 season. Could this be an interesting hint at what could be coming to this area in the future?

Monsoon A 1992 Intamin Shoot the Chute attraction.

The removal of Monsoon is another interesting removal coming. Not because it is entirely unlikely of it going away seeing the trend of other Cedar Fair similar attractions, but more so because it was not expected yet.

Falcon’s Flight 2017 Huss Condor.

We are thankful we finally got to ride Falcon’s Flight back in 2019, as we never would anticipated that this ride would already be getting taken out. However, reports show it had a lot of issues and seldom ran.

The real interesting piece is why five attractions are being removed ahead of the 50th anniversary season. When so much attention is being paid at your park for an anniversary year with a major new attraction, the last thing you want to do is remove rides.

Regardless, all these ride removals start to open up some interesting future opportunities that might be worth keeping a close eye on.
