Kings Dominion has quietly announced that Winterfest will not return to the park in 2025.

We’ve made the strategic decision to focus on delivering exceptional experiences during our core operating seasons, spring through fall. In 2025, we’re thrilled to celebrate our 50th anniversary with the debut of Rapterra, a highly anticipated record-breaking coaster, along with a summer celebration filled with exciting new shows and experiences, and a range of enhancements throughout the park.

Kings Dominion extended the season for Winterfest starting in 2017. Since then it was the region’s premier holiday event, offering millions of lights, decorations and experiences that have created family memories and traditions that guests have come to love.

This is devastating news following the Six Flags and Cedar Fair merger in 2024. Under the leadership team, the parks have been cutting hours, employee pay, jobs, and events to appease shareholders.

Up until today, Kings Dominion was still selling season passes that showed Winterfest as a benefit. That line has since been removed, making guests that might have purchased knowing they would get that benefit upset for the last minute change.

The last day of the season at Kings Dominion will be November 2, 2025.
