Each year we take a detailed look at the new season passes that have been released across the Cedar Fair chain, and if warranted, compare them to previous years. The 2022 Cedar Fair season pass news is a very interesting one since considering that for those that purchased passes in late 2019 or 2020, the passes were extended through the 2021 season since many of the parks opened under limited operation or did not even open at all.
Even Knott’s Berry Farm, who did not open until May 6, 2021, extended their specific season passholder base until May 5, 2022 if you purchased prior to May 5, 2021. In addition, non-California resident Season Passholders with an out of state address attached to their pass had their passes extended through June 15, 2022.
To complicate matters even further, Canada’s Wonderland extended their season passholders until September 5, 2022 since they did not open until July 7.
While all of that is not really over complicated for all the regular/gold/silver passes, where it really starts to get sticky is with the Platinum passes.
Platinum passes have always been universal across all of the parks. So it did not matter if you bought it at Cedar Point or at Canada’s Wonderland, the price was always the same. Where it gets interesting is how they handle the renewals for 2022.
For example, we own Platinum passes that were originally obtained at Canada’s Wonderland; therefore, our passes are already good till September 2022, whereas typically they all expire on December 31. So Cedar Fair need to have some very good backend IT in place to track where guests purchased their passes and tie them to the varying expiration dates.
However, that also brings up another interesting point. How do they handle Platinum pass extensions to cover September 6-December 31, 2022? Are they going to attempt to charge us for a full price Platinum pass when it should only be a partial extension?
Another thing to consider, Is the Platinum Pass even worth it?
2022 Cedar Fair Season Pass News
Now that it is August, season pass holder renewals are upon us. Schlitterbahn is the first to release details on their 2022 season passes as highlighted below. This also gives us some insight into pricing and details on the Platinum pass, that again will apply to all parks since they are typically universally priced. Other parks will be populated as more news is released.

Hmm so far no Renewal Offer at CP for the free FLP on Sundays in the fall… is this normally announced later than the other parks?
The fact that it wasn’t offered initially & others did, means CP is not doing the FL+ offer. It makes sence given that FL+ has been extremely busy this year at CP to the point that they increased the price to $159 on weekdays & $249 Saturdays. If they gave out FL+ for all the gold passes FL+ would be useless b/c everyone would have it on Sunday’ this fall.
I know that there is special pricing on the passes themselves at CP until Labor Day. Do you know if the dining and drink plan (Gold Pass) also increase after that date? Or do they generally stay the same? (In other words, if I purchase CP Gold passes now, but hold off on dining and drinks until later, am I liable to take a large hit?)
