We have heard the praises of many about the quality of food that Executive Chef Jan Giejda, but we finally made it out to Allentown, Pennsylvania to try some of the amazing meals Dorney Park is serving their guests.
We all know that Kings Island is putting out some pretty AMAZING hand breaded chicken tenders that are marinated for 24 hours before serving them hand tossed in batter and fried golden. We even went so far as to compare those being served at Chicken Shack versus those at Reds Hall of Fame Grill.
After working to promote Chef Jan’s work, we knew he had a hand is creating some amazing BBQ, but we did not know he was also creating his own signature recipe of hand breaded chicken tenders.
After marinating the chicken overnight, the tenders are tossed in Chef Jan’s own signature seasoning and fried.
The Chicken Tender Combo from Smokehouse BBQ costs $15.29 and includes a choice of side dish. During our visits, we had the choice of mac and cheese, coleslaw, fresh cut fries, or baked beans.
The chicken was extremely tender and lightly breaded, making them excellent compared to the standard chicken tenders served elsewhere in the park.
As you will see in this review and subsequent reviews, the side dishes were just as impressive as were the entrees. The coleslaw was FANTASTIC and really hit the spot on a hot day. While we do not know the exact recipe, yet, the cabbage tasted like it was pickled rather than doused in the traditional slaw sauce. We tend to be very opinionated when it comes to coleslaw, as there are so many variations, both good and terrible. Chef Jan’s coleslaw is PERFECT served with any of the entrees! We strongly suggest getting the slaw with the pulled pork to put right on the sandwich to enhance the already incredible flavor.
Another normal miss among amusement parks, let alone a great majority of restaurants is mac and cheese. While the recipe is pretty difficult to mess up, one would be surprised how many places serve flavorless mac and cheese. We decided to order one of our chicken tenders meals with mac and cheese and boy were we glad we did!
The Smokehouse Barbecue mac and cheese was phenomenal with a very flavorful cheese taste and made for a great accompaniment to the chicken tenders.
To say we are a fan of Chef Jan’s chicken tenders would be an understatement! Great job and a must try for all guests!
