150605 Cedar Point Fried Ice Cream

Update: Due to lack of sales, the fried ice cream is no longer available.

One of the surprising plays in the Cedar Point food lineup for 2015 was the switch from barbeque style food (ribs, pulled pork, etc.) to burritos at the Chuck Wagon Western Foods restaurant in the rear of the park. While it is reported that the quality of the food went down tremendously over the past several years, there is nothing like a complete menu overhaul to get things back on track.

The new setup inside Chuck Wagon is similar to Chipotle, where you walk the line building your own burrito. Look for a future review of the new burrito menu lineup.

In the meantime, we recently elected to try another new menu item, the fried ice cream! For $4.59, the park takes a scoop of vanilla ice cream, rolls it in crushed corn flakes, and flash deep fries the dessert for 3 seconds. Then it is sprinkled with cinnamon, and topped with whipped cream, hot fudge, and a cherry, on top of a fried tortilla.

The dessert was an interesting treat. The crunchy cereal played nicely off the cold ice cream on top of the tortilla. Overall the fried ice cream was an interesting treat to say we tried, but not sure it would be something we need to try again. Perhaps, fried ice cream is more of an acquired taste.

Still, it is great to see the park stepping outside of the norm and experimenting with some new food items.
