One of the many reasons we LOVE visiting Canada’s Wonderland is because of all the amazing flat rides with many guests will not find at any other Cedar Fair parks.

When Canada’s Wonderland opened in 1981, one of the rides was a HUSS Skylab, or Giant Enterprise, comprised of 15 gondolas. The ride was very similar to the Witches Wheel (Cedar Point) that was removed near the end of the 2018 season.

Orbiter was also known as Sol Loco with a Mexican theme from 1981 until 2002. In 2002, the Sol Loco name and theming was dropped and the ride renamed Orbiter. The ride was temporarily removed during the 2006 season under Paramount’s ownership, but when Cedar Fair took over Canada’s Wonderland the Orbiter was saved and reconstructed.

Guests can review the historical Sol Loco/Orbiter location on our Canada’s Wonderland maps.

Thanks to some insight from Amusement Insiders, who flies a drone adjacent to Canada’s Wonderland during the off-season, Brendon noticed the Orbiter was being deconstructed, though at the time of discovery, it was uncertain whether this was for routine maintenance or not. Though the ride was later seen in pieces in the parking lot where Yukon Striker pieces were being staged.

Orbiter was officially removed from the Canada’s Wonderland this past weekend.

Canada’s Wonderland has later confirmed “Yes, Orbiter had its last season in 2018 and is currently being dismantled and removed from the park. As you know, these decisions are difficult ones, but we regularly evaluate our rides and consider downtime, resources required for ongoing maintenance and overall guest satisfaction. There are no immediate plans for a replacement attraction on that plot of land.

Orbiter resided in the Action Zone portion of the park near Behemoth. The ride was actually in a weird location, tucked downhill behind Coasters Drive-In, and well concealed behind landscaping. If you did not know the ride was there, it was easy to miss. It also may not have helped that many of our visits were during food festivals (like Brew & BBQ) in the Action Zone, which further concealed the attraction.
