New for 2019 is the Prospector’s Burritos & Cantina food stand. Once the new Cotton Blossom BBQ opened up, it no longer made sense for the Battle Creek BBQ to offer similar food, and thus the change was made.
Prospector’s Burritos & Cantina currently offers three different protein options: Ancho Rubbed Chicken, Grilled Steak, or Smoked Pulled Pork.
After choosing your meat, guests can choose from a variety of traditional Mexican style toppings.
We ordered the Grilled Steak in a burrito on a recent visit. In addition to rice and beans, we added olives, lettuce, cheese, salsa sauce, and guacamole.
One thing we would like to see at any dining location that offers a large burrito is for the ingredients to be tossed together in a bowl prior to being placed into a tortilla. The creation of the perfect burrito requires the right balance of the ingredients and right mixture to ensure you get a thorough bite of all the flavors.
A typical problem with this type of eatery is they fill the burrito with filler material and less of the items that give actual flavor. Unfortunately, this was the case during our experiment with the Grilled Steak Burrito.
The burrito offered a very small portion of meat and its flavor, although seasoned well, was overwhelmed by the other ingredients. The tortilla, as we found out after, was a gluten free version which was very tough and chewy. Next time we will be sure to request a flour tortilla or bowl.
