New for 2019, the Gold Rush Pizza stand replaced the former Vittle Griddle. When the food stand was converted to Gold Rush Pizza, it gave them an opportunity to experiment with some FUN and creative food ideas that one would expect to find at an amusement park.
One of the exciting new dessert options added at Worlds of Fun is a fried caramel cheesecake…yes please!
The fried caramel cheesecake consists of a small amount of cream cheesecake filling wrapped with a sweet dough, fried as a roll, then sliced open, dolloped with whipped cream, and drizzled with caramel.
The exterior dough cooked up crisp, and reminded us of the flavor of Chinese fortune cookies, although not quite as crisp as that. The bulk of the dish was made up of this cookie-like crust, and there was a small amount of cream cheesecake filling in the very middle.
We were eagerly hunting for the filling at first and lamenting that there seemed to be so little of it; however, once we found to it, the filling was extremely rich and sweet. After eating more of the fried cheesecake, we realized it might have been too sweet and difficult to finish the dessert if there were more. The addition of whip cream and caramel syrup was a nice touch and added additional dessert flair to this dish.
Overall the Worlds of Fun fried cheesecake was a nice twist on traditional cheesecake and a FUN option to share with a friend or family member.
