Let’s get honest with each other for a moment. We like it spicy, and when we mean hot, we mean throw what you have at us. Jalapenos are nice and all, but bring the HEAT! That is why we got really excited when Carowinds partnered with the Puckerbutt Pepper Company for the 2015 season to offer a variety of spicy options around the park.
Before you think Puckerbutt is just another hot sauce brand, think again. Smokin’ Ed has hand created the world’s hottest pepper on the planet, and along with it a large variety of fantastic sauces.
Take for example the Carowinds Churrowind, which uses a signature Puckerbutt caramel sauce to bring out the spiciness of this typically sweet treat.
So we were super excited to try the Puckerbutt wings at, where else, the Wings Restaurant.
After the wings are cooked, they are tossed in the signature sauce. As we selected a chicken wing to eat, we anticipated the heat rush about to engulf our senses. However, we were surprised to see how the wings had more of a sweet taste with slight undertones of heat. Chef Kris informed us the heat level was actually reduced a little since last season since guests complained they were too hot.
We really enjoyed the Carowinds Pucketbutt wings, as the sweet and spicy placed nicely off each other. The wings were perfectly cooked, not to crispy and overdone, nor undercooked. The sauce had a slight stickiness to it that was perfect to lick off your fingers without being worried about the pepper oil making your eyes water.
Have the Puckerbutt wings brought on the heat or been just perfect for your visit to Carowinds? Let us know your feedback below.
