Kings Island, Valleyfair and Worlds of Fun are all rolling out a new cashless system throughout the park starting in mid-July. The parks are phasing out acceptance of cash (see below for clarification) in an effort to streamline the checkout process and minimize cash control. All food, beverage, merchandise and ticket windows will now accept credit cards, debit cards, or smart device with Apple Pay or Google Pay.
The parks are also implementing new cash conversion machines where guests will load their cash without any fees onto a pre-paid Visa credit card. Then use the card throughout not only throughout the park but also anywhere Visa is accepted outside the park. However, guests need to be aware that any balance on the card is subject to a $3.95/month fee if not active within 92 days.
The cash to cards can be loaded with a minimum of $5 and maximum of $500 each. Oddly, the cards can not be reloaded.
While we are doubtful, one thing we would love to see introduced with this program is branded cards at each of the park. It would be a cool free souvenir to have a Kings Island, Valleyfair or Worlds of Fun debit card.
