Similar to how the dining plans were experimental in 2014, and then widely rolled out in 2015, both Kings Island and Cedar Point will be testing out a new Sweet Spot concept this year.
The idea of the Sweet Spot was first announced with the 2015 Kings Island dining improvements back in November 2014.
The Kings Island “International Street Fudge and Candy Shop will be renamed Sweet Spot and undergo an extensive interior and exterior redesign with new product offerings and the opportunity for guests to experience watching fudge and candy being made through large glass windows.”
Letting guests see the process of making your favorite treats is part of the appeal that helps drive sales of the product.
So during today’s Cedar Fair conference call discussing the 4th quarter/yearly earnings report for the company, we were surprised to hear it announced that Cedar Point will be constructing a new Sweet Spot for 2015 as well. No other details were released as to what they will offer or where they will be located. However, looking at the earlier King’s Island info, we have a best guess as to the offerings.
Cedar Point currently offers fudge and candy back near the Frontier Trail at CJ’s Provisions. The only difference is the experience, wherein the fudge and candy are not typically made in view of the guest, or at least not all the time.
So the question is, where will the new Sweet Spot go at Cedar Point? Scroll to the bottom for an update on the confirmed location of the Cedar Point Sweet Spot.
Ideally, along the main Midway would be the best location to capturing the guests attention and dollars before they leave the park.
The Sweets ‘n Treats Candy Shoppe looks like it could be a great location of the new Sweet Spot, as it is located immediately on the left (west) side of the Main Midway. While they have enough room to accommodate the fudge tables, it is unknown whether these locations could accommodate the baking ovens for all of the baked goods.
The other alternative would be to use the existing CJ’s Provisions location, possibly combined with the Toot Sweets spot, and after a simple remodel, completely transform the user experience. This seems to be the easiest and most predictive location, but at this time it is all only a guess.
Update 2/21/15: Guests of Winter Chill Out have been told by Cedar Point that the new location for Sweet Spot will be between Snoopy’s Boutique and the Pagoda Gift Shop.
Update 2/23/15: Cedar Point has released the following concept art for their new Sweet Spot storefront.
