Its the battle for the biggest and tastiest cheesesteak on the Cedar Point peninsula. Just like food stands throughout Philadelphia have been claiming they have the best of the best when it comes to the all-mighty cheesesteak, Cedar Point and Chickie’s & Pete’s have been quietly raging a war of sporks.
Chickie’s and Pete’s has held the title for best cheesesteak on the Cedar Point peninsula since first being introduced in the 2014 season.
In 2015, Cedar Point opted to create their own version of the cheesesteak at Sky Ride Refreshments. Though we did not have the highest opinion of it at the time, and it took two years to try it again.
Today, both the Chickie’s & Pete’s and Sky Ride Refreshments cheesesteaks are on the Cedar Point dining plans, giving guests and passholders the chance to cast their vote for the best of the peninsula!
Chickie’s & Pete’s Cheesesteak
The Chickie’s & Pete’s cheesesteak takes chopped, grilled steak, tops it with the classic white cheese sauce, and includes optional sauteed onions. You always get the onions, right?
While the stand along cheesesteak off the menu does not includes the signature crinkle cut crabfries with white cheese sauce, they are included on the dining plan!
Guests also have the option to choose a chicken cheesesteak!
Sky Ride Refreshments Cheesesteak
The Cedar Point cheesesteak is offered at the north sky ride station near the Cork Screw. The sandwich is served with chopped steak, sauteed onions and peppers, and melted cheese on a bed of standard issue fries.
Comparison
Initially we questioned the idea of Cedar Point going up against the giant Chickie’s & Pete’s (C&P) when it comes to cheesesteak. However, the sandwiches are drastically different and in a great way.
The C&P cheesesteak is pretty good and are usually prepared with a nice portion of steak. The onions and cheese sauce add a ton of flavor and the bun is always decent quality that does not fall apart.
The Sky Ride cheesesteak surprisingly picks up a lot of great flavor from the peppers and onions. While the sandwich may not be as thick as that from C&P, we really enjoyed the sandwich overall.
The C&P crabfries hands down are far superior than the standard issue fries, and considering you get a container of classic white cheese sauce, it is hard to beat the C&P version as an overall meal option.
We are happy Cedar Point appears to have gotten over their half a sandwich nonsense at Chickie’s & Pete’s when redeeming a dining plan. Now the portion actually coincides with what one would consider a meal.
Since this is a friendly competition of the battle of cheesesteaks, and we must choose a winner. Our vote goes to…the Sky Ride Refreshment cheesesteak for a slightly more flavorful sandwich. However, if you factor in the fries as a whole meal, the Chickie’s & Pete’s version takes the edge.
