Many guests walk through the gates of Cedar Point each day with a story to tell. Some are visiting with family and/or friends. That couple over there may be on their first date to the park. Others may be further along in the dating ritual and be discovering love for the first time with their partner. The family over there is showing the park to their children and instilling in them their passion for amusement parks. No matter where you are in your relationships, we all have a story about meeting our partner and how we like to ride off into a Maverick sunset together.
Today Shawn and Nicole offered to share their story about falling in love and getting married on the shores of Cedar Point.
The Roller Coaster of Love: Married at Cedar Point
My husband, Shawn, and I dated each other for about six months the year I graduated from high school. We went our separate ways for 22 years before finding each other in 2009 all thanks to Facebook. I learned that he was a roller coaster enthusiast and has traveled across the country to ride roller coasters and he learned that I have a love for the beach, whether along the Great Lakes shoreline or especially somewhere warm and tropical. We both have a great passion for adventure, so our lives quickly moved forward.
He took me to Cedar Point during the summer of 2010…it was the first time I had been in 17 years! I immediately fell in love with the park! A lot had changed since I had last been there, so it was like a whole new experience. He shared his love for roller coasters and the history of the park itself. I was hooked! He took me out to Cedar Point Beach where we walked along the water’s edge and got a completely different view of the park. I was having a great day, enjoying both the park and the beach.
Our relationship progressed and he proposed to me on the shores of Lake Erie, where we hung out as teenagers at Sterling State Park in Monroe, Michigan in December of 2011. We spent the next few months trying to decide when/where to get married and we came up with the perfect plan that combined his love for roller coasters, my love for the beach and our mutual love for Cedar Point.
We applied for our marriage license while at CoasterMania in 2012 and set the date for August 6, 2012. We contacted the park officials to ensure it was acceptable to get married along Cedar Point Beach and they gave us the thumbs up! We made our reservations for Camper Village and on the day of the wedding, we signed our license in the Rotunda of Hotel Breakers. We were married while standing at the water’s edge, with the sound of the waves behind us and sounds of excitement coming from the park. It was a perfect day!
After we said our “I do’s,” we went back to the camper, changed out of our wedding clothes and spent an amazing day at our favorite park! To cap off a perfect day, we had our message about our wedding scroll across the screen during the Luminosity show.
We have been Platinum pass holders for the last few years and no trip to Cedar Point is complete without taking a walk out to our special spot on the beach!
Our marriage has had its ups and downs and every now and then, my husband throws me for a loop, but I have come to expect that from someone that loves roller coasters as much as he does…I would not have it any other way!
