In 2017, the Kings Island Vortex roller coaster celebrated it’s 30th anniversary at the park. Kristoper Werner, a graphic design artist, set out to create an original Vortex artwork celebrating the attractions history in a realistic style.

The Racer, opened in 1972, remains an iconic symbol at Kings Island for its racing, classic out-and-back woodie design. The blue side received a complete retracking on the turnaround this winter in preparation for the 2019 season. Kris Werner Designs created a special Racer print in 2018 to commemorate the attraction.

Now for 2019, the third print has been released paying tribute to move loved historic roller coaster that is no longer at Kings Island, Son of Beast.

Son of Beast operated at Kings Island from 2000 through June 2009. After the Son of Beast introduction, the wooden roller coaster set many world records including the following.

The seven world records held at its introduction were:

– Tallest wooden roller coaster
– Longest wooden roller coaster drop
– Fastest wooden roller coaster
– Only looping wooden roller coaster (2000–2006)
– Longest looping roller coaster (2000–2006)
– Most wooden coaster track at one park (22,612 feet or 6,892 metres)
– First and only wooden hypercoaster in the world (over 200 feet or 61 metres high)

Remember, back in the 2000’s, it was almost unheard of to fathom the idea of going upside down on a wooden roller coaster. This was well before the days of Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) and their steel topper track concept like Steel Vengeance.

The limited edition Son of Beast posters are available for $25 at CoasterPosters.com.
