Haunt at Cedar Fair parks is historically one of the busiest times of year. Guests are itching to get in their last minute visits during fall before the parks close for winter. In addition, from a value perspective, being able to visit one location and see multiple haunted houses/mazes as well as immersive entertainment and food/beverage, was an absolute no brainer. However, several Cedar Fair parks are opting to eliminate the traditional Halloween scary Haunt format and go with a more traditional family event.
As of this writing, the following parks will be offering a Tricks and Treats event in lieu of Haunt.
– California’s Great America (Select Dates September 23 – October 30, 2022)
– Valleyfair (Select Dates September 30 – October 30, 2022)
All other parks are currently showing Haunt/HalloWeekends on the docket for 2022.
So what is this new format Tricks and Treats event?
The new event appears to look nothing like the traditional daytime Camp Spooky/Tricks and Treats Fall Fest we have come to know. Tricks and Treats is perfect for guests of all ages who want to celebrate the fall season without the intense scares. The new event invites guests to join in on festive fun with a trick-or-treat trail, Halloween-themed games and activities, special live entertainment, along with the most delicious fall-inspired foods, sweets, and drinks.
Tricks and Treats take place all over the parks, but appears to be broken up into two areas relative to The Land of Tricks and The Land of Treats.
Upon entering the park, guests will be immediately immersed in the Halloween fun with a choice of four themed areas to start from. The Main Stage sits adorned with a giant pumpkin as the event’s centerpiece of all festivities. During the day, it is a picturesque family backdrop perfect for capturing fall-inspired memories. As the evening approaches, guests will notice the large festive Jack o’ Lantern coming to life with a fiery light, taking on a soft uncanny glow.
From there, guests can choose their path by embarking on the festive Lands of Treats or one of the mischievous Lands of Tricks, each with its own mystery and fun in store. The Lands of Treats is made up of Everfall and Sweet Tooth Acres, both rich with joyful memories of bonfires, Halloween sweets and cozy fall feels. Guests will enter an autumnal fall festival, and sugar-spun candy farm decor displayed everywhere imaginable. For those looking for more mischievous fun, the Lands of Tricks offers Spooky Spires and Ickyville. These playful areas will have guests drawn to a splat-tastic monster party and an eerie classical speakeasy populated by gothic surprises.
The Land of Tricks features the Icky Ville and Spooky Spires and Pointe Peculiar.
The Land of Treats will feature Everfall and Sweet Tooth Acres, and Conjure Creek.
The areas entail lots of photo ops, games, crafts and other FUN family features. The event is heavily relying on families to pour back into the park and be immersed in a new version of Halloween entertainment.
The new Tricks and Treats events are also going to debut all new fall food and beverage items that we can not wait to try. Read more about it in the Tricks and Treats Fall Food Guide.
In addition, the parks will have rides open during the Tricks and Treats events, though specific details have not been released.
