Now that the new Miami River Brewhouse at Kings Island has been open for a little while, reviews continue to pour in for food offerings. For sure the food is fresher and more elevated than recent history for the location.
In addition to loads of menu options being included on the Kings Island dining plan, the park also features three fresh new salads that give those of us who are vegetarians and vegans something great to eat. Just be sure to tell them no cheese if requested.
One of the new dining plan options is the KI Salad, features a mixture of leafy red and green lettuce. The salad is then topped with Cranberries, Feta Cheese, Red Onion, Honey Roasted Nuts, and a Balsamic Vinaigrette.
After receiving the salad, the first thing we noticed was the lack of size for an entree salad. While the bowl was in the 6-8″ diameter size, there was lack of lettuce to actually fill the bowl. As a side salad, we get it, but as an entree, the bowl should be filled substantial to constitute a meal.
As typical, we noted the salad was larger at the beginning of the season then when we recently ordered it. Perhaps it could have been just a fluke of prep and this is not the norm. We will see how others chime in below in the comments to see if their experience mimics ours.
There was a nice collection of ingredients on top that really added to the flavor. To us, this was similar to a comfort meal as we build the same salad for our family at home.
We are normally a big fan of balsamic based dressings, and while this one was good, it did not come across as anything spectacular. We were greatly appreciative that the salad had just enough dressing to add flavor but not drown out the bowl.
In general, we are very happy to see fresh and healthy salads showing up on the dining plans at Kings Island. We also understand it is still technically towrds the beginning of the season and they may be adjusting portion sizes, etc. However, salads are cheap to make, and as an entree item, it needs to be proportioned appropriately.
Would we get it again? For, probably because it is one of the more healthier items on the menu. We would just like to see the portion size adjusted.
