After trying the Kings Dominion fried chicken, our expectations of the food offerings at the Country Kitchen were very high. So we were excited to try the Kings Dominion Country Kitchen BBQ Pork meal to see if it lived up to the same high standards.
During our 2016 visit, the the BBQ sandwich was served on your sesame seed bun and it was our only suggestion on the meal, to serve it with maybe a brioche bun like those served with the Carowinds Fury burger. We were delighted to see that the park took our suggestion and does indeed serve the BBQ pork on a much heartier bun that really held the sandwich together well.
All meals at Country Kitchen include your choice of two side dishes. If you read our fried chicken article linked above, you will see the presentation of the sides was impressive, and how all of the sides were tasty and homemade. We selected the mac & cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy, carrots, and green beans and all were excellent.
The pork is cooked in a White Lightning brand moonshine from Tennessee. The sandwich was very flavor and even had a slight spicy kick to it. New this year the sandwich include coleslaw, which on one we had it on the side and the other we placed it right onto the sandwich. As much as we really like this meal, the coleslaw was fantastic and very flavorful and was a welcomed addition to the plate. We also noticed the sandwich included some BBQ sauce this year.
The hefty portion of moonshine pork with two sides is a great meal, especially considering it is on the dining plan, and considering the sides are more than the standard fries. We think the Kings Dominion Country Kitchen is one of the best places to eat in the park.
What have you thought of the pulled pork at Kings Dominion?
