This year Cedar Point’s Toot Sweets is offering a new treat that sparked our interest, the caramel apple sundae.

The self-service kiosks show two menu items: Caramel Apple Wedges and Apple Wedges with Ice Cream.

Under normal circumstances, a caramel apple with soft serve ice cream does not necessarily sound too good together. However, the image of the caramel apple on the kiosk is what helped sell us on trying this new treat.

After ordering the dish, the apple was freshly sliced and then topped with our choice of vanilla, chocolate, or twist soft serve.

When we questioned where was the caramel, the staff said it was not supposed to come with caramel. Even after walking the staff over to the computer kiosks that clearly showed a caramel apple with the ice cream, because it did not explicitly state “Caramel Apple Wedges with Ice Cream,” they claimed ignorance and did not give us the caramel.

Honestly, we are not even sure they had the capabilities to give a scoop of hot caramel as we think they likely may have just given us a drizzle from the caramel sauce bottle.

In the end, we had a mixed review of the Cedar Point caramel apple sundae. We all wished it came with the caramel, period. However, it still was pretty tasty.

Our other issue is the Apple Wedges with Ice Cream costs $6.99. While we fully expect paying amusement park prices, the dish is WAY overpriced for what it is.

Here is the other thing. We have a very high tolerance for discrepancies in food. What we like you may not. When we have a not so pleasant experience, we chalk it up and realize next time it may be better. We can not necessarily rate a meal as bad one time when it very well could be great the next. However, this was something simple…a caramel apple with ice cream. It does not take much training to figure this dish out. It was just poorly executed, at least from what we would have expected based off the kiosk menu.

The problem lies in that once we have a bad experience, it does not want us to go back and spend money again. Case in point the Sky Ride Refreshments cheesesteak. After our first experience in 2016, it took us two years to want to try it again. A bad experience resonates with the customer. If you do not make a good experience the first time, you lose them as a customer. Period.

Have you guys reached out to the foods dept at the park or guest services so they know about the issue and try to correct it
Sounds to me as if the employees were not well trained in the execution of this item. I agree: make sure you share this with park services so they can correct this glaring omission.
