Everyone loves a classic food battle, so the team at the CPFB set out to do a comparison of the Cedar Point burritos that are offered at two locations in the park. Both Los Gatos Cafe and Chuck Wagon Western Foods provide freshly made burritos and are located in the back of the park near the Frontier Trail area.

The first major difference between the two locations is that Los Gatos is a 2015 meal plan offering, where as Chuck Wagon is not and needs to be purchased outright.

For those without meal plans, the burrito at Los Gatos costs $6.59 where as over at Chuck Wagon, the burrito is $9.99.

The Los Gatos burrito comes with chicken or ground beef, rice, black beans, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, lettuce, and salsa. Besides selecting your meat, Los Gatos does not provide much opportunity to select your own toppings, as the process happens behind the counter. If there is something you do or do not want on your burrito, you need to make sure to tell them prior.

The Los Gatos burrito also includes a side order of Shearer’s chips and salsa. It should be noted at the beginning of the season, guests received a whole bag of chips, where as a more recent visit was a small dish of chips.

On a side note, Los Gatos also does not have any knives for the staff or guests, so you will need to head over to Chuck Wagon if you want to cut the burrito in half for sharing.

The Chuck Wagon burrito is a classic build your own burrito made famous by Chipotle. All of the ingredients are there in front of you for the choosing. Among the options include white rice, grilled steak, grilled chicken, shredded pork, black beans, pinto beans, queso cheese sauce, grilled red peppers, lettuce, tomato, shredded cheddar cheese, onion, two types of salsa, taco sauce, sour cream, and guacamole (additional fee).

When placing the burritos side by side, one really notices the size difference between the two. The Chuck Wagon burrito is substantially larger, likely due to the fact that you can add as many or as little ingredients as you want.

Next is the taste comparison. The Los Gatos burrito has a substantial rice and beans flavor that dominates the taste experience. While the Chuck Wagon burrito combines all the ingredients for a great flavor profile and textures (light crunch of the vegetables versus chunks of chicken, etc.).

Both burritos are actually quite tasty and filling, though the Chuck Wagon burrito comes out as the clear winner in our books! Just having the chance to eat a freshly made burrito, on the dining plans, is a huge improvement over the standard burger and fries.

The one suggestion, most notably experienced with the Chuck Wagon burrito, is that the preparation needs to include the mixing of the ingredients throughout the burrito. Due to how the burrito was prepared, it was quite common to get a bite of only sour cream or only rice. Had the ingredients been dispersed evenly through the burrito and rolled consistently, the flavors could have been combined better.

While it may not be a fair side by side comparison since one burrito is on the meal plan and made for you out of site versus paying for one and custom building them in front of you, there was a fair share of differences to warrant the comparison on which burrito is better.

Have you tried either burrito at Cedar Point?
