As we approach the end of 2019, it is interesting to reflect on the past. While the birth of the CPFoodBlog only goes back to 2013, of course Cedar Fair and associated parks have been around much longer.
Over just the course of our association, we have seen so many things change, especially considering when we started this journey, dining plans were not even implemented yet.
So as we close out 2019, lets take a look back at some highlights over the past decade.
California’s Great America
2010- Nickelodeon Central rethemed to Planet Snoopy; Panda Express added. Removed Invertigo and moved to Dorney Park
2011- Cedar Fair attempted to sell park
2012- The Grizzly is retracked. Carousel Columbia, Demon and Flight Deck repainted. Fast Lane introduced.
2013- Added Gold Striker roller coaster. Subway added.
2014- Planet Snoopy Construction Zone rethemed to Peanuts. General park improvements including repainted Flight Deck to red and white paint scheme.
2015- Planet Snoopy expands into KidZville. Added GR8 SK8 and Peanuts 500 to Planet Snoopy (relocated from Knott’s Berry Farm); added Snoopy’s Space Buggies
2016- Added Mass Effect: New Earth interactive show. Firefall (HUSS Top Spin) removed. Winterfest debuted.
2017- Converted Vortex (stand-up) to Patriot (floorless). Removed H.M.B. Endeavor (Intamin Looping Starship), Snoopy’s Splash Dance, Logger’s Run
2018- Added RailBlazer roller coaster
2019- Retheme of Drop Tower
Canada’s Wonderland

2010- Planet Snoopy replaces Hanna-Barbera Land. Added Lucy’s Tugboat, Peanuts 500, and Snoopy’s Revolution.
2011- Added WindSeeker
2012- Opened Leviathan roller coaster. Dinosaurs Alive! opened. Fast Lane introduced.
2013- Fast Lane Plus introduced.
2014- Wonder Mountain’s Guardian debuted. SkyRider closed.
2015- SlingShot added. Splash Works adds Splash Station and Typhoon slides added.
2016- SkyHawk and Flying Eagles added. Virtual reality added to Thunder Run.
2017- Added Souring Timbers; Splash Works added Muskoka Plunge.
2018- Flying Canoes and Lumberjack added. Splash Works expands Lakeside Lagoon. Dinosaurs Alive! closed.
2019- Debuted Yukon Striker roller coaster and newly themed Frontier Canada area.
Carowinds

2010- Intimidator roller coaster debuts. Boo Blasters on Boo Hill introduced. Nickelodeon Central replaced with Planet Snoopy.
2011- Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular debuts and general park maintenance.
2012- WindSeeker added. Fast Lane introduced.
2013- Dinosaurs Alive! added.
2014- Harmony Hall debuts. Chickie’s & Pete’s replaces Outer Hanks. Chick-fil-A moves into the former Country Kitchen building. Auntie Anne’s replaces Plaza Funnel Cake. The former Chick-fil-A is renovated into Funnel Cake Emporium. Two new slides added to Boomerang Bay: Surfer’s Swell and Dorsal Fin Drop.
2015- Fury 325 roller coaster debuted. SlingShot added. Thunder Road roller coaster removed.
2016- Boomerang Bay water park expanded and rebranded to Carolina Harbor. Plants vs Zombies debuts in Action Theater. Southern Sidewinder and Whitewater Falls are removed. Papa Luigi’s remodeled.
2017- County Fair themed area gets 4 new rides: Electro-Spin (a mondial top scan), Zephyr (Zierer Wave Swinger), Rock N Roller (Mack Rides Music Express), and Do-Si-Do (HUSS Troika). Carolina Cobra roller coaster rethemed to The Flying Cobras. Winterfest debuts.
2018- Planet Snoopy converted to Camp Snoopy. Planet Snoopy carousel relocated to new Carousel Park area of the park.
2019- Copperhead Striker roller coaster debuted along with new Blue Ridge Junction themed area. SpringHill Suites at Carowinds scheduled to open. Dinosaurs Alive! closes. SpringHill Suites opens.
Cedar Point
2010- Shoot the Rapids opens. Chaos removed.
2011- WindSeeker debuts. Ocean Motion relocated. Paddlewheel Excursions and WildCat close. Speed Slides removed from Soak City.
2012- Dinosaurs Alive! debuts. Disaster Transport and Space Spiral removed. Fast Lane introduced.
2013- GateKeeper opens. Bumper Boats removed.
2014- Gemini Midway debuts Pipe Scream, Lake Erie Eagles, and SlingShot. Mantis closes. Turnpike Cars, Sir Rub-a-Dubs Tubs and Good Time Theatre removed.
2015- Mantis converted to Rougarou. Shoot the Rapids closes.
2016- Valravn introduced.
2017- Changed Soak City to Cedar Point Shores
2018- Steel Vengeance
2019- Introduced Forbidden Frontier on Adventure Island
Dorney Park
2010- Dorney Park received The Demon Drop from Cedar Point. Rita’s Ice debuted at the park.
2011- Camp Snoopy transformed to Planet Snoopy
2012- Stinger roller coaster received from California’s Great America (and later removed in 2018). Dinosaurs Alive! and Fast Lane debuted.
2013- Nothing notable
2014- Snake Pit water slide complex added to Wildwater Kingdom
2015- Cedar Creek Flyers
2016- ThunderHawk receives new trains, paint, lighting and track overhaul.
2017- Dodgem and Kaleidoscope rides debuted. Papa Luigi’s opened in Wildwater Kingdom.
2018- Tidal Wave Cafe opens in Wildwater Kingdom. ThunderHawk receives new portions of track.
2019- Grand Carnivale debuted. Monster Jam Thunder Alley closed out the end of the season.
Kings Dominion
2010- Intimidator 305 opens as one of Cedar Fair’s most influential roller coasters! Kids areas began transformation to Planet Snoopy.
2011- Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular, a nighttime walk-through premiers June-August.
2012- WindSeeker installed. Opened Dinosaurs Alive!
2013- Planet Snoopy merges with KidZville area to become Cedar Fair’s largest Planet Snoopy.
2014- Singing Mushrooms and floral clock return, Anaconda repainted. Blue ice cream returns. Johnny’s and Trail’s End Grill restaurants renamed to their original names, Dinner Bell (now The Mac Bowl) and Hungry Hippo.
2015- WaterWorks expanded and rebranded as Soak City.
2016- Delirium opened on site of former Shockwave roller coaster.
2017- Planet Snoopy expanded.
2018- Twisted Timbers replaces Hurler as one of the first two Rocky Mountain Construction roller coaster at Cedar Fair parks. Rebel Yell renamed Racer 75 and Richochet rebranded as Apple Zapple. Winterfest debuts.
2019- Grand Carnivale and Monster Jam premier. Dinosaurs Alive and Volcano: The Blast Coaster removed.
Kings Island
2010- Planet Snoopy replaced Nickelodeon Universe
2011- WindSeeker added to the Coney Mall. Dinosaurs Alive! opened.
2012- Boomerang Bay rebranded as Soak City.
2013- Dinosaurs Alive! expanded. Reds Hall of Fame Grille opens.
2014- Banshee opened on the site of former Son of Beast.
2015- Snoopy’s Space Buggies and Woodstock Gliders added to Planet Snoopy.
2016- Tropical Plunge added to Soak City. Family Care Center remodeled. New Toll Plaza.
2017- Mystic Timbers opens. Island Smokehouse opens in Soak City.
2018- Coney Bar-B-Que opens.
2019- Kings Mills Antique Autos returns in Coney Mall.
Knott’s Berry Farm
2010- Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular added/Snoopy’s Christmas Spectacular.
2011- WindSeeker opened.
2012- Sold Knott’s Soak City (San Diego) to SeaWorld Parks.
2013- Sold Knott’s Soak City (Palm Springs) to CNL Lifestyle Properties. WindSeeker removed and relocated to Worlds of Fun. Coast Rider, Pacific Scrambler, and Surfside Gliders opened in Boardwalk area.
2014- Camp Snoopy updated.
2015- Voyage to the Iron Reef opened.
2016- GhostRider opens after extensive refurbishment. Starbucks opens.
2017- Sol Spin opened on the site of former WindSeeker. Soak City updated/expanded. Boardwalk Barbecue opens.
2018- HangTime opened.
2019- Calico River Rapids opens after retheme of Bigfoot Rapids
Michigan’s Adventure
2010- Bumper Boats added
2011- Beach Party opens in water park
2012- Fast Lane introduced.
2013- Lakeside Gliders opened.
2014- Nothing notable
2015- Nothing notable
2016- Funland Farm area opens for parks 60th anniversary.
2017- Half Pint Paradise opens in water park.
2018- Mary Lynn’s Group Catering Pavilions updated.
2019- Be-Bop Blvd cars removed for future Camp Snoopy area.

2011- Planet Snoopy opens with Cosmic Coaster relocated from Dorney Park and several other new attractions
