Darien Lake’s wide variety of entertainment has made it “destination fun” since 1964. Located 45 minutes from Niagara Falls between Buffalo and Rochester, N.Y., today the park boasts more than 50 rides, including six world-class roller coasters; dozens of family-friendly rides; the region’s largest water park complete with wave pool; a 20,000-seat performing arts center, operated by Live Nation; and world-class in-park entertainment.
The story of Darien Lake is an interesting history of a family run amusement park as well as a showplace for some of the latest rides. As the story goes, back in the 1960s, an investor named Paul Snyder started buying up the property around Darien Lake, and as demand grew, he began to make various attractions available for the guests.
As a smart businessman, Snyder worked up an exclusive deal with Huss Park Attractions in the 1970s and 1980s to showcase their many rides and attractions to other potential buyers in the United States and Canada.
In 1982, the newly merged Arrow Huss built and opened the park’s first major roller coaster, Viper, which is celebrating 35 years at Darien Lake this year!
While Darien Lake is not a Cedar Fair affiliated park, it does have a related connection that back in the 1980s and early 1990s, the new parent company at the time also owned Geauga Lake. As a result, Darien Lake received various improvements including The Predator roller coaster.
Today, Darien Lake offers a variety of roller coasters, family and kid rides, as well as a water park, live entertainment venue, campgrounds, and lodge.
