Is walking up to the bar too much of a hassle for you to get a beer? Then on top of the cost of the drink, you need to get the bar staffs attention, find a spot to belly up to the bar among the crowd, and tip the bartender. What if the process of getting a beer was so much easier, and self serve?
This week Cedar Point debuted a brand new concept for the park, the Draftserv. The machine was setup and operational around lunch time on Tuesday, August 11, 2015.
The Draftserv system is located along the main midway of Cedar Point, adjacent to splash pad.
After showing ID to verify legal drinking age, guests purchase a pre-paid card that is used at the machine. The attendant also provides you with a cup. Guests then walk up to the machine, scan your card at the beer of your choice, pull the tap, and the machine automatically dispenses the drink for you. The attendant can provide you with tips to minimize the amount of head on your beer.
Cards are refillable at the $10 and $20 level. Beer costs $0.50 per ounce. When making your purchase, the screen will show you how much money is on the card and how much beer has been dispensed/how much money has been spent.
Guests can pour as little or as much as they would like. If you want to enjoy 8 ounces at your first visit, you can come back later in the day and pour 12 ounces. It is up to the guest to determine how much or how little they want to pour into their cup. The Draftserv system provides a great way to only pour as much as you can consume while still keeping it at the ideal temperature.
See the below video for all of the details on how the Draftserv machines work.
It is anticipated that the Draftserv machine will be in the park at least through the end of this season. There is hopes that a second machine will be added so guests can use their cards throughout the park.
The current draft selections of beer include the following: Budweiser, Bud Light, and Goose Island IPA
Draftserv Tips:
– Cedar Point gives you a fairly large cup, so keep that in mind when filling up. A full glass costs about $10.
– If you are trying to limit your consumption to break it up over a day, watch the screen and not your cup. The machine pours fast so keep that in mind if you only want to consume a limited amount of beer per serving.
– Always drink responsibly.
