Back in August 2019, California’s Great America announced a complete overhaul to Boomerang Bang, rebranding it as South Bay Shores for the 2020 season. However, due to the pandemic, the grand reveal was delayed until 2021, and the park is ready to show its shiny new water park.
The new South Bay Shores is nearly double in size of it’s predecessor and feature all new attractions, restaurants and more. In addition, all previous attractions are being rebranded for the new water park!
During the planning stage for South Bay Shores, the park took the opportunity to reimagine the water park experience by tying it into a quirky seaside town. Guests will experience a common theme throughout of what one could expect when visiting small coastal cities in California.
What we love most is that California’s Great America will expand the water park experience with live entertainment. Expect to see South Bay Shores town folks out and about during your visit, allowing the immersion experience to further bring the guest into the environment. You can read more about the design process and live entertainment tie-ins on the Between the Lines blog.
Of course, South Bay Shores also features seven all new water attractions and refresh to the rest of the park.
The headliner of the water park is Pacific Surge, featuring six water slides, four of which have trap-door drops.
South Bay Shores also features several new food & beverage locations to highlight some of the towns signature menu options. This includes Pier 76 Cafe, Shark Bites, and the Sand Bar.
The overhaul to South Bay Shores is really impressive and really ties everything together with the theme. We are excited to see how this storyline evolves over time.
