The Canada’s Wonderland Backlot Stunt Track roller coaster opened in 2005, then owned by Paramount Parks, and originally called the Italian Job Stunt Track as a high speed MINI Cooper S stunt car ride.
Here are 4 interesting facts from when the ride was first introduced.
1) Multiple LIM (Linear Induction Motor) launch the circuit coaster with several Boost Zones throughout the ride, where the train will be propelled by a LIM jump.
2) The exterior fiberglass for each vehicle was themed as a 75% scale MINI Cooper S, approved by MINI. The original cars featured real MINI Cooper headlights and tail lights.
3) The original MINI cars were outfitted with subwoofers and tactile transducers couple to each seat for an enhanced audio experience. Audio features were activated by magnets to which the on-board inductive sensors responded at various points in the ride experience. Each car featured a power slide effect, simulating fishtailing through turns to intensify track curves and driving sequences.
4) The launch system has the equivalent power of 1,500 horsepower.
Sadly, the majority of the creative technology that made the Italian Job Stunt Track unique was stripped out when the ride was converted to Backlot Stunt Coaster.
