Every single year rumors circulate around the internet that the Cedars dorms at Cedar Point are getting removed.
The Cedars dorms goes back a long way into the Cedar Point history books.
In 1901, The White House hotel was built and designed by architect Oliver W. Marble with fifty-five rooms. In 1903, The White House hotel is expanded to one hundred twenty-five rooms.
By 1915, The White House hotel was renovated and reopened as Cedars Hotel.
The Cedars Hotel offered guests accommodations a less formal experience than those at Hotel Breakers, but provided them with their own cafeteria, cigar stand, gift shops, and cozy corners complete with plants, reading lights, wicker chairs and writing tables.
Eventually Cedars Hotel was converted into Cedars dorms for employees.
Today, the dorms remain pretty much unchanged from how they were decades ago. No air conditioning, but each room may bring their own. Rooms accommodate three people with a set of bunk beds and single bed. Amenities are minimal.
All below pictures were submitted anonymously of the current building status July 2018. Regardless of whether you are a past employee or curious historian, Cedars dorm may soon be removed, making it an interesting relic.

The sounds of those squeaky front doors opening and slamming shut will always be the sound of summer for me.

Executive Apartment # 1 (Cedars)
When I worked at Famous Faves, Cedars was the place I would take my break at and eat from the vending machines
Famous Daves
As a “local” working at the Point, several coworking friends lived in the Cedars. They said living in the sparse rooms prepared them for college dorm life.
Great memories abound.
Lived there in the summer of 1976. Always reminced of my time there when I visit the park. Sad to see them go.
The creaky floors and doors- I loved every bit of it! Wish they would restore and turn it back into a hotel- 🤔
Everything is being torn down for new. So few have a desire to take care of and preserve that which means so much to so many people and families. It’s so SO SAD!
Breaks my heart that they are removing The Cedars. What an amazing piece of history. Such great memories there. So much could be done to preserve and update this incredible old place. All about $$$. Cedar Fair is horrible at managing its properties.
Without profits to be made there would be no Cedar Point. The buildings could not be brought up to modern fire safety standards and space on the peninsula is at a premium.
Please show some respect for Cedars. Without a doubt, removing Cedars was the most iconic historical structure they have ever removed. You are right. I was falling apart. But that son of a gun lasted 120+ years.
Here is a tour of Executive Apartment #1…. I bet it is not the Cedars you were used to staying in.. Hehehe

I watched President Nixon resign in the Cedars TV room. Yes, it was a dump 40 years ago, but, the convenience of living right outside the gate was great.
July 29, 1981: A crowd assembled in the TV room early in the morning for the marriage of Lady Di to Prince Charles. Otherwise, whatever was on, we watched, because no one was ever assertive enough to change the channel. … Nothing better at the end of a shift than getting a Peach Nehi from The Munchery (run by Jeannetta) and plopping down on one of those couches. (At least for those of us who didn’t go to the Rec Center for mere beer.)
It’s amazing how few pictures there are of the inside or outside of The Cedar’s throughout history. I lived there for a few summers in the mid 80s and never took one pic.
I moved there in April of 1977,That place was chilly taking a shower.I made $80.00 a week and lost 25 lbs.Not having anything to eat.But I could ride for free.
I stayed at the Cedar dorms the summer of 1980, 1981, and 1982. Worked a ton of hours but those were the best summers of my life! I made a lot of french fry’s at the Hot Potato and Happy Fryer. Good times!!
My Mom lived the the Cedar dorms as a child with her Mom and Dad. Her dad was a ride mechanic. The employees in the park used to give her a frozen banana if she went into the haunted house and screamed her bloody head off to generate interest. she is pictured in one of c.p.’s history books standing near the merry-go-round with her mom, wearing her little saddle shoes.
How fun to see some old photos of the Cedars. I lived there for a short time during one of my three summers working at Cedar Point from 1975-77. I worked in the reservations department of the historic Hotel Breakers…best summers of my life!
Wow! What a flashback. I lived in the Cedar Point dorms in the summer of 2003. I worked the horse racing water squirting game. I spent most of my money playing Dance Dance Revolution in the arcade. We worked long hours, had no A/C, and ate an ungodly amount of chili cheese nachos and hot dogs. One of the best summers of my life. Those pictures take me back. All the history and memories. <3 <3 <3
hey i was 2003 and 2004 too!! worked the dipindots.
met my wife there and now married since 2005!
remember those internet computers at the front?
cheers
Fond memories of working at Cedar Point in summers of ’75-’76’.Our downstairs room first year was adjacent to the train maintenance yard, my roommate Dave painted the CP logo on our room’s wall and the train whistle still rings in my ears.. The second year I roomed upstairs on the Marina side, easy to sneak a girl up the rear steps at night. I worked as a cook at the Silver Dollar Cafe for $2.15/hr plus contract bonus, not much money but a lot of fun as nearly everyone was in college and 18-22 yrs old. 35 waitresses and 7 cooks were good odds ! We were close to the Blue Streak roller coaster and many times we would hop on the employee train, the last run at closing. One time the brakeman let us fly too fast through the station and nearly tipped the train in the first turn … scared the wits out of all of us and them. Made some lifelong friends there, some are now gone, way before their time. Anyone there who remembers hit me up.
Thanks for these lovely memories. My children do not believe that I lived in a Dorm at Cedar Point when I was in college in 1975. My roommate was from Cleveland and I am from Tennessee. We were lucky enough to work inside the Breakers. I remember the Thursday night dances most fondly.
I spent many days hanging out at Cedars as a non-employee. Had a friend whose parents had a large “boat” in the Marina where I stayed and I made many friends that worked in the Park. You all were so much fun and happy and I wanted to join you but I had a weird on-a-week/off-a-week job that allowed me much free time in Sandusky. The Cedars were simply awesome – it was mid-late 80’s. I met a wonderful girl named Cathy S from Michigan, I think of her weekly – literally – 34 years later. If you know a dark haired athletic girl named Cathy from Michigan from that period – tell her I miss her fondly, as I do all the great folks who lived and worked at “the Point”
