Carowinds amusement park, previously led by Executive Chef Kris Siuta, introduced a new treat in the park during the 2015 season that one might not expect to be paired together. The chef takes a traditional churro, with it’s chewy sweetness and pairs it with a spicy caramel sauce that gives your mouth a whirlwind of flavor, naming it the Carowinds Churrowinds Churro.
UPDATE: The spicy caramel sauce has been replaced with a standard caramel sauce.
Churrowinds are covered in your traditional cinnamon sugar coating. However, then they step it up by filling the churro with a Bavarian cream. Lastly, a Puckerbutt Pepper Company caramel sauce is drizzled over the top.
We tried the Churrowinds and they were pretty good. Personally, I have a very high tolerance of spicy heat, and can eat the Puckerbutt Reaper sauce without any problems. So foods that may be spicy to some people, I may not even notice the heat. So the sweet caramel sauce tended to be more sweet than spicy for me. Though my wife claimed her churro was a slight bit spicy.
Churrowinds come together with two in a serving and cost $6.29.
You can get Churrowinds at the following park locations:
Arbor ICEE
Planet Snoopy Coca-Cola Refresh Station
