Canada’s Wonderland has been surprising us year after year with some incredible ethnic food options that you will not see in any of the other Cedar Fair parks. Since January 2015, Executive Chef Dilup Attygalla has been transforming the way we eat around the park, and we are extremely thankful.

The Backlot Cafe in Canada’s Wonderland is Chef Attygalla’s artistic palette for great food options, and the majority of the menu is on the Canada’s Wonderland dining plans!

While the “Backlot Cafe” may not be the right name branding for what is inside, you will see a diverse list of food stations which are themed to different cultures, such as Italian, Mexican, and Indian.

We asked the leading Canada’s Wonderland insider, Matt from Coaster Circuits, to give us some feedback on this years Backlot Cafe aromatic curried beef.

On opening day, we decided to try something we do not normally get at the park since it is our first season on the all-season dining plan. After viewing the options at Backlot, we decided on the Aromatic Curried Beef at the Little India station.

The curried beef is served with basmati rice, Naan, papadum, and additional sauces are optional.

The beef was soft and moist, and I could taste the rich flavor in every bite. While I do not personally eat the cardamom seeds or cloves found in curry, it was nice to see them in there as it contributes to the flavor. The naan was nice and warm, with a slight crisp while still being soft in the middle.

Papadum was something I never had before. It’s a thin crispy bread, a bit like a fried tortilla. I was interested in trying it and it added to the uniqueness of the dish.

The aromatic curried beef is a fantastic and authentic dish that is not to be missed when visiting Canada’s Wonderland.
