When the Sierra Creek Lodge opened their doors in late June 2018, guests were really excited for not only a new dining option in the park, but the impressive list of new menu items created by Executive Chef Erick J. Ponce and team.
Perhaps we were most excited to try the impressive list of fresh made panini sandwiches.
The options include:
– Sun Dried Tomato Pesto, Fresh Mozzarella and Arugula on Herb Foccacia
– Grilled Chicken, Provolone, Smokey Bacon and Fig Jam on White
– Smoked Turkey and Swiss, Smoked Poblano Spread on Sourdough
– Smoked Tri Tip, Smoked Gouda, Caramelized Onions, Arugula on Ciabatta
– Peanut Butter, Bananas, Strawberries, Strawberry Jelly on White
Guests with the California’s Great America dining plans will also be excited to see the paninis are included!
Included with your meal is a choice of side that includes Red Grape and Mango Quinoa Salad, Israeli Couscous Veggie Salad, Sweet White Corn on the Cob with Butter, Sidewinder Fries, Mac & Cheese, and Side Salad. Yes, you read that list correct. The side options offered at Sierra Creek Lodge and really impressive and we love them!
Grilled Chicken, Provolone, Smokey Bacon and Fig Jam on White
The jam is created by combining smoked bacon and figs cooked down and macerated into a jam.
The bacon and fig jam provided a really nice mildly sweet contrast to the provolone, and the grilled chicken was very tender.
Smoked Turkey and Swiss, Smoked Poblano Spread on Sourdough
We tried the turkey and Swiss panini on two separate occasions.
The sandwich is really good and a welcomed change from the typical park food. Again the sides are a major improvement in the park! Just check out that grape and mango quinoa salad!
The only con with this sandwich is we would like to see a little more flavor come through in the smoked poblano spread.
Smoked Tri Tip, Smoked Gouda, Caramelized Onions, Arugula on Ciabatta
The tri tip was really good on the grilled ciabatta bread and the steak was juicy and very flavorful. Some of us really like the onions, while others thought they could come with a little less.
Peanut Butter, Bananas, Strawberries, Strawberry Jelly on White
Great remake on a classic with fresh sliced strawberries and bananas. Surprisingly, this sandwich can be a little messy and may require a fork and knife.
The sandwich was really good. The only potential issue is there is no real good side options to pair with the sandwich. Keep in mind, all the side options are terrific. We just need to find the right one that pairs with a more sweet sandwich.
